The National Weather Service on Monday issued a high surf advisory for east-facing shores on Hawaii Island.
From Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Ka‘u, the high surf advisory will be in effect through Thursday.
A high surf advisory means surf will be higher than normal. Shore break and dangerous rip currents could make swimming difficult or cause injury or death.
According to Hawaii County Civil Defense, beach-goers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials, and “when in doubt, don’t go out.”
There are no beach closures at this time, but beaches may close without notice.
